Te Hira, meaning “Holy Hill” in Māori, was built in 1904.

The building, which is one of England’s listed buildings of architectural and historic interest, has been a dwelling of many different kinds over the 100 years it has been standing.

During the first world war it was a military hospital, and more recently was a gentleman’s residence before becoming Te Hira Care Home.
